Welcome to Elm Class
I hope that you all had a relaxing and enjoyable Easter and are ready for your child’s last term in Reception. Where has the time gone? As you are all aware, Mrs Karolyn Owen will be teaching the class in my absence but we will have regular contact with each other to ensure that the children continue to make the good progress that they have during the last two terms.
Our topic for the Summer term will focus on “All things bright and beautiful” and an overview of what we intend to cover can be found in our Summer Newsletter and Curriculum overview.

Elm Class had a lovely day at Woburn yesterday. Mrs Payne and the other adults were very proud of them and how they behaved . They were a credit to Alconbury School and their parents. Well done Elm Class ! Look out for more photos on the school website gallery.

This week Elm Class have been learning about the royal wedding. We have dressed up in wedding outfits, painted Union Jacks, made playdough cupcakes, iced biscuits in red white and blue , drawn castles, written  invitations and finished off with a royal tea party.

Transport Week

Book Bags -These should be sent into school every day. The diary and reading book need to be in school every day, even if you haven’t had a chance to look at it. This is because we will endeavour to hear children read at every opportunity, but at least once a week.

P.E   Children will need to ensure that they have a full PE kit in school every day.  Our PE days are Monday , Thursday and Friday.  Children will also have the opportunity for physical activity on a daily basis using the range of equipment available in our outside classroom.

P.E kits stay in school, but will be sent home at half term for washing. Please make sure that everything is named .

Children will be expected to have these things in school EVERY day:

  • named bottle of water – no juice please. (Please ensure bottles are not placed inside book bags as they have a tendency to leak!)
  • named coat
  • book bag with reading diary and book*
  • PE bag containing shorts, T-shirt,  jogging bottoms , plimsolls/trainers and a spare pair of pants and socks (This will be sent home at the end of each half term)

WOW certificates – Please remember that ANY achievement can be celebrated and it really does help us to build up a better profile of your child. We have been really impressed with the number of “WOW’s” that have been sent in so far – Thank you! Keep them coming. If you run out of certificates they can be collected from the classroom, via your child, or are available to download from our class page.

We are learning all about Autumn and what changes we can see outside. Tthe children went on an Autumn walk, they collected leaves and seeds and observed the changes in the colour of the trees and leaves around the school.
